Maintenance tips

Our Starbay furniture is made exclusively from natural materials.
It is important to follow a few rules to ensure their splendour and longevity.

Wood is a living material that lives and reacts to its environment, even as furniture. The hygrometric (humidity) level in your room affects its condition, and it is vital to prevent it from becoming too low. To prevent the air from becoming too dry, particularly in winter when homes are heated, place a glass of water inside your closed furniture (sideboards, cupboards, etc.). For open furniture, green plants will work, provided there are enough of them in the room. Maintaining a normal to high level of humidity will prevent problems such as cracking and crazing. It is also not advisable to place your furniture in the direct vicinity of a radiator in working order.

For daily maintenance of Starbay furniture, simply wipe with a soft cloth, very slightly damp to catch dust, and above all avoid using chemical or acid products that could attack the protective layer. Wax should be avoided, as it will dirty the varnish, as will abrasive sponges or scouring powders that could scratch it.

To prevent streaking, we recommend that you use coasters, trivets, tablecloths and other protective surfaces for any hot, icy, wet or greasy objects that you place on the tray.

The colour of your furniture will change slightly depending on exposure to sunlight and moonlight. This is a normal and unavoidable change for all types of furniture (except outdoor furniture, which is treated with an anti-UV varnish). If the furniture is exposed to direct sunlight, behind a bay window for example, a lightening of the colour will be noticeable after several years' exposure.

No special maintenance is required for the leather components on our furniture. For the seats, you can apply a colourless moisturising cream once a year to nourish the leather.
